A: First step is to make sure you have adequate RAM. For OSX, a minimum of 2 GB of RAM is recommended. If your hard drive is nearly full, either back up and delete a bunch of stuff, or consider upgrading to a new larger, faster hard drive. All hard drives slow down dramatically as they fill up.
